You can configure ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus to scan all files received through Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger) for potential malware using the ESET command line scanner module. In Windows Live Messenger, you can add the path to the command line scanner by following the steps below:
Open Windows Live Messenger (Start → All Programs → Windows Live Messenger).
Click Tools → Options and then click File Transfer from the menu on the left.
Select the Scan files for viruses using option. Directly below this option, add the directory path to the ecls.exe file. At the end of the path, you can also add logging and cleaning parameters, if desired. The path should look like this:

ESET Smart Security

'C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security\ecls.exe' --logfile=log.txt --action=clean

ESET NOD32 Antivirus

'C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\ecls.exe' --log-file=log.txt --action=clean

Fig. 1-1
The '--log-file=log.txt' parameter will create a scan log in C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security\log.txt or C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\log.txt of all files received through Windows Live Messenger. The '--action=clean' parameter will automatically attempt to clean any infected files.
For additional information on available parameters using the command line scanner, please reference the help files included with the program or section 5.3, 'Command Line' of the ESET Smart Security User Guide (http://www.dris.se/forums/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eset.com%2Fdow nload%2FESET_ESS_User_Guide_EN.pdf).
